Types of Wax and Their Functional Differences
The quality of a candle largely depends on the type of wax used, as it directly affects burn time, fragrance diffusion, and environmental impact.
Natural Waxes
• Soy Wax: Made from soybean oil (a renewable resource). Burns slowly and evenly, producing minimal soot. It holds and distributes fragrance exceptionally well.
• Beeswax: Sourced from beehives, it has a natural honey aroma and a warm yellow tone. Provides a strong, stable flame and burns longer than many other waxes.
• Coconut Wax: A soft, white wax that burns very cleanly. Often blended with soy wax to improve texture and performance.
• Olive Wax: An eco-friendly alternative commonly used in wax blends.
• Stearin: Derived from plant or animal fats. Often added to other waxes (such as paraffin or soy) to increase hardness and raise the melting point.
